Store & Team Configuration
Before accepting sales tax exemption requests from customers, configure your store profile, physical locations (nexus), and team access permissions inside the TaxWisp Merchant Dashboard.
1. Store Locations & Sales Tax Nexus
Under United States sales tax regulations, a merchant is only required and legally authorized to collect or exempt sales tax in jurisdictions where they have an established sales tax presence (nexus), such as a physical office, retail store, or warehouse.
Adding a Store Location
- In the TaxWisp Dashboard, navigate to Settings → Store Locations.
- Click Add Location.
- Fill in your business details:
- Location Name: (e.g., Headquarters Warehouse, Austin Retail Store)
- Street Address: Physical street address
- City, State, and ZIP Code: State and postal jurisdiction
- Default Fulfillment Location: Toggle if this is your primary shipping origin
- Click Save Location.
TaxWisp validates customer exemption requests against the jurisdictions where your store has an active physical presence. Setting accurate locations prevents approving exemptions for states where your store does not have tax obligations.
2. Team Member Invitations & Roles
Managing sales tax certificates often requires collaboration between your finance, compliance, and customer support teams. TaxWisp allows you to invite additional team members to your account.
Inviting a Team Member
- In the TaxWisp Dashboard, navigate to Settings → Team.
- Click Invite Member.
- Enter the member's Email Address and select their appropriate role.
- Click Send Invitation.
- The invited member receives an email invitation containing a secure link to accept and set up their password.

- Automated Validation: Automatically checks certificate completeness, expiration dates, and state-specific business ID formats for faster processing.
Exemption Notifications
Configure automated notifications in Settings → Notifications:
- New Submission Alert: Notify compliance reviewers when a customer submits a new exemption request.
- Expiring Certificate Warning: Notify both your team and the customer 30 days prior to certificate expiration.
- Rejection Notice: Automatically send an email to the customer explaining why their certificate was rejected with a link to re-upload.
