Prerequisites

Before installing the TaxWisp Shopify App, make sure you meet the following prerequisites to ensure a smooth setup and optimal performance:

Active Shopify Store​

You must have an active Shopify store to install and use the TaxWisp app. If you don't have a Shopify store yet, sign up for one at www.shopify.com.

Shopify Account Credentials​

Make sure you have access to your Shopify account credentials, including the email address and password associated with your store.

Shopify Admin Access​

You need administrative access to your Shopify store to install apps. Ensure you have the necessary permissions to install and configure apps within your Shopify account.

Operating in the US​

The TaxWisp app is only available for Shopify stores operating within the United States. Ensure that your store is based in the US and adheres to US tax exemption regulations.

Stable Internet Connection​

Ensure you have a stable internet connection to access the Shopify App Store and install the TaxWisp app seamlessly.

Understanding of Sales Tax Exemption Requirements​

Familiarize yourself with the sales tax exemption requirements relevant to your business. Understand which customers or products may qualify for sales tax exemption and the documentation required for validation. Please note that the store can only exempt sales taxes from a specific jurisdiction if they have a store presence within that jurisdiction. Sales Tax Exemption Document Validation​

Prepare a plan for validating sales tax exemption documents, such as certificates or declarations. These documents will be submitted by customers while requesting for sales tax exemption, and you should have proper knowledge about which document is valid and required for sales tax exemption under different jurisdictions before proceeding with the approval or rejection of sales tax exemption request.

Customer Awareness and Adoption of Sales Tax Exemptions via TaxWisp​

It’s essential to actively educate your customers about sales tax exemptions, their eligibility and how they can benefit from it. Make sure to clearly communicate that tax-exempt purchases are possible, what types of exemptions are supported (e.g., resale, nonprofit, government), and the documentation customers may need to provide. Once TaxWisp is enabled on your store, customers can submit their tax exemption requests directly through a simple self-service process powered by TaxWisp. We strongly recommend that you inform your customers about TaxWisp, how it works, and how they can use it to apply for tax exemptions before completing their purchases.
